I’m just thinking out loud.
将来の計画について、独り言のように声に出しながら考える時に用いる。ただの独り言だから相手にしなくていいよ、と聞き手に伝える場合の表現。例）“Don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud”「気にしないで、ただ声に出していただけだから。」また、聞き手の協力を得ようと、注意を引くために用いられる場合もある。同義表現は、“I was just talking to myself.”
Don’t change the subject.
まだ話し合うべきことがあるのにかかわらず、話題を変えようとする相手に使える表現。たいていは、その相手が問題と向き合うことを避けている場合が多い。例）“Don’t change the subject. We still need to discuss your skipping school.”「話題を変えるなよ。おまえが学校をさぼったことについて、まだ話し合う必要がある。」
This is gonna take the rest of my life.
やる気を持続させることが困難な、退屈で時間のかかる仕事や雑用をするはめになった時に使える表現。例）“This report is gonna take the rest of my life to finish.”「このレポートを書き終えるのに死ぬまでかかりそうだ。」同義表現として、the rest of one’s lifeの後をforever と置き換えることができる。例）“Come on. This is gonna take forever but we’re getting nowhere.”「ねえ。これ一生かかるけど、どうにもならないよ。」
